Donations Policy

The mission of For This City is: "Creating environments where young people can hear the Gospel, encounter God, witness the unity of the body of Christ, and are commissioned to go back into their world to advance God's Kingdom." We rely on the generosity and support of donors to fulfil this mission.

As a registered charity in New Zealand, we are committed to maintaining transparency, integrity, and accountability in all aspects of our operations, including fundraising and donations.

1.0 Introduction

The purpose of this Donation Policy is to outline the principles and guidelines governing the acceptance, management, and use of donations received by For This City in accordance with the Charities Act 2005.

3.0 Compliance with the Charities Act 2005

For This City shall adhere to all applicable provisions of the Charities Act and other relevant legislation pertaining to charitable fundraising, including but not limited to:

  • Ensuring that all fundraising activities are conducted in a manner consistent with the stated charitable purpose.
  • Maintaining accurate financial records of all donations received and expenditures made.
  • Providing donors with appropriate acknowledgment and recognition for their contributions.
  • Safeguarding our tax-exempt status by complying with relevant tax laws and regulations.

4.0 Acceptance of Donations

For This City may accept donations, whether monetary or in-kind, from individuals, corporations, foundations, and other entities, provided that such donations align with the charitable objectives and values of the organisation.

Acceptance of donations shall be subject to the following conditions:

  • Donations must be made voluntarily and without the expectation of receiving any goods or services in return, unless explicitly stated otherwise.
  • For This City reserves the right to refuse any donation that is not in the best interests of achieving its charitable purposes or that may compromise its independence, integrity, or reputation.

5.0 Use of Donations

Donations received by For This City shall be used exclusively for purposes that further its charitable mission and objectives. Funds may be allocated towards:

  • Programmatic activities and services benefiting youth ministries, young people in the community and/or providing support or training to partner youth ministries.
  • Operational expenses necessary for the effective functioning of the organisation.
  • Capital projects and infrastructure improvements, as approved by the Board.
  • The organisation shall not use donations for purposes that are inconsistent with its charitable purposes or that contravene the provisions of the Charities Act.

6.0 Stewardship and Accountability

For This City is committed to ensuring responsible stewardship of donated funds and maintaining the trust and confidence of its donors. To uphold these principles, the organisation shall:

  • Provide periodic updates and reports to donors on the impact of their contributions.
  • Exercise prudent financial management and oversight to ensure that donated funds are used efficiently and effectively.
  • Conduct periodic reviews and audits of financial records to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and best practices in financial management.

7.0 Refunds

Any donation refunds will be at the discretion of For This City. In deciding whether a refund can be facilitated, the donation(s) in question will be assessed to determine whether they have already been applied to a charitable purpose.

8.0 Donor Recognition and Privacy

For This City recognises the importance of acknowledging and honouring the generosity of its donors. Donors may be recognised publicly, unless they request anonymity or confidentiality. The organisation shall respect the privacy preferences of donors and adhere to all applicable laws and regulations regarding the collection, use, and disclosure of personal information.

9.0 Donation Receipts

Donors will be provided with a donation receipt at the end of the financial year. This receipt will serve as official documentation of your contribution, enabling you to claim a tax refund from the Inland Revenue Department (IRD).

10.0 Amendments to the Donation Policy

This Donation Policy may be amended or updated from time to time by the Board of For This City to reflect changes in regulatory requirements, best practices, or organisational needs.
